THE STORY
Reported Haunting
The former Northville Psychiatric Hospital developed a reputation for disembodied voices, footsteps, touches, breathing and metallic sounds in its abandoned buildings and tunnels. The hospital structures are gone, but the former grounds are now Legacy Park.
Northville Psychiatric Hospital opened in the 1950s and later became one of Michigan’s best-known abandoned institutional sites. Before demolition, visitors and paranormal storytellers described voices, footsteps, clanking or metallic sounds, unexplained breathing and the sensation of being touched. The hospital buildings have since been demolished and the property has become Legacy Park, so this marker represents the former hospital grounds rather than a surviving asylum structure. Visitors should use only the public park and trail areas.
