THE STORY

Reported Haunting

The Forsyth Park Inn is said to be haunted by the spirit of a young girl named Lottie, the adopted niece of a former owner. According to local legend, her apparition has been seen around the inn, and guests have reported other unexplained occurrences attributed to her lingering presence.

It is said that the captain’s adopted niece, Lottie, aged 14, haunts the inn. So the story goes, the captain’s wife Lois had a sister, Anna, who came to live with them. One day Lottie was shocked to find Anna and the captain in an embrace, and in her anger, poisoned Anna’s tea with oleander from the garden. After Anna was gone, Lottie found out that Anna was actually her real mother. The news sent Lottie to an asylum and trouble her to the end of her days. Folks say Lottie’s ghost can be seen in the garden and other spots at the inn, but she usually disappears quickly from sight. She may even pull pranks with objects from time to time.
