THE STORY
Reported Haunting
Fye Bridge stands on one of Norwich's oldest known bridge sites and was reportedly used for ducking accused witches during the English witch trials. A ragged female apparition is said to ask visitors to gather the sticks used to burn her, with legend warning that anyone who helps will die in a fire within a year.
The present Fye Bridge was built in 1933 on a crossing documented as early as 1153. During the witch trials of the 1600s, the site is said to have held a ducking stool used to test people accused of witchcraft. Local legend tells of a woman who was later burned at nearby Lollard's Pit and now appears on the bridge dressed in rags. She reportedly asks passersby to help retrieve a fallen bundle of sticks said to have kindled the fire that killed her.
