THE STORY
Reported Haunting
Decades of wind and salt from the Baltic Sea have twisted the trees of Gespensterwald into eerie, unnatural shapes. When darkness and coastal mist fill the woods, the forest becomes the setting of local ghost stories and reported supernatural folklore.
Gespensterwald, whose name means Ghost Forest, is a coastal woodland beside the Baltic Sea. Wind, salt, and heavy humidity have shaped its old beech, hornbeam, ash, and oak trees into distorted forms, with branches often growing only on their sheltered sides. The misty forest and its snake-like trees have inspired local ghost stories, though Atlas Obscura does not document a specific named apparition or historical haunting.
