Reported Haunting
The Gloucester County Jail is associated with reports of ghostly former inmates and unexplained paranormal activity. Visitors have reported apparitions, phantom footsteps, disembodied voices, and cell doors appearing to move on their own. The jail's long history has made it one of New Jersey's notable haunted sites.
Many deaths occured at the recently closed jail, including drug overdoses, accidental asphyxiation and at least 12 suicides. Witnesses say the jail is haunted; paranormal investigators have described unexplained crashes and banging along with clicking sounds heard in an EVP session.
