THE STORY
Reported Haunting
Chicago's historic Graceland Cemetery is associated with the ghost of young Inez Clarke, a spectral wolfhound, and the ominous Eternal Silence monument, which legend claims can reveal a vision of the viewer's death.
Established in 1860, Graceland Cemetery is the resting place of many prominent Chicago residents. Its best-known legends include the apparition of six-year-old Inez Clarke, whose memorial statue is sometimes said to disappear during storms; the ghost of a large wolfhound seen near its owner's grave; and the hooded Eternal Silence monument. According to local legend, anyone who looks directly into the monument's eyes may experience a vision of their own death.
