THE STORY
Reported Haunting
Visitors to Boston's historic Granary Burying Ground report unexplained figures, strange photographic anomalies, and the apparition of a Revolutionary-era man sometimes identified in local lore as James Otis Jr.
Established in 1660, the Granary Burying Ground at 120 Tremont Street is Boston's third-oldest cemetery and contains thousands of burials, including many prominent figures from the Revolutionary era. Ghost-tour lore describes unexplained figures, photographic anomalies, and a male apparition sometimes identified as James Otis Jr. The identity of any apparition is unverified. Boston's own historical material confirms that the grave markers were rearranged over time and do not necessarily correspond to the burials beneath them.
