THE STORY
Reported Haunting
Guests and employees have reported apparitions, strange noises, and unexplained activity throughout the historic Green Gables property. A ghostly woman seen near the kitchen is among its best-known legends.
Ghosts here include a woman who haunts the kitchen (especially the walk-in cooler). She is said to whisper “Turn off the lights” and move objects in the kitchen. Often seen on the second floor is the ghost of an African-American man who wears 1800s clothing. He is usually near the front stairway and is known to be unpleasant, often screaming at the owner’s dog to shut up. Reports say when the owners bought the place, they were unaware of the ghosts, and several times called the police to report folks trespassing in their building.
