THE STORY
Reported Haunting
Guilford College has several longstanding campus ghost stories involving historic buildings and residence halls. Students have reported apparitions, footsteps, and unexplained activity.
Guilford College is said to have haunts in its 1961 Dana Auditorium. The building is said to stand on the site of a makeshift Civil War hospital where many soldiers died. The oldest ghost in residence is Lucas, a soldier who tends to appear at 2 a.m. in the Moon Room or the Choir Room. He plays pianos, tinkers with locks, and once swung and broke a chandelier right in front of security guards. Another ghost, that of a small dark-haired girl in a white dress, has been seen in the Choir Room.
