THE STORY
Reported Haunting
The Hamilton-Turner Inn is said to be haunted by former members of the Hamilton family and other spirits connected to the mansion. Guests have reported hearing children laughing, billiard balls rolling across an upper floor, and footsteps in otherwise empty hallways. Apparitions and unexplained cold spots have also been reported throughout the historic inn.
Samuel Pugh Hamilton built this mansion for his family in 1873; it was the first Savannah home with electricity, installed in 1883. Witnesses on the inn’s staff have noted a cigar-smoking man on the roof, and have heard the unexplained sounds of billiard balls rolling on the upper floors and children laughing. The book “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil” mentioned the wild parties thrown by one-time property manager Joe Odom. After many incarnations, the property was turned into an inn in 1997.
