THE STORY
Reported Haunting
The Hanging Post in Cranford is associated with local legends involving executions carried out during the colonial era. Visitors have reported shadow figures, mysterious lights, unexplained voices, and an uneasy feeling near the site after dark. The location has remained a focus of New Jersey ghost lore for generations.
At the corner of Gallows Hill Road and Brookside Place once stood the giant hanging tree, where Revolutionary War spies were hanged. Although the tree is gone now, locals say you can still see ghostly movement here from a distance.
