Reported Haunting
The Harden House is said to be haunted by John W. Harden, who was murdered at the property in 1975 under circumstances that remained unsolved for decades. Reports of his apparition and other unexplained activity became well known enough that the story of the haunting and murder was featured on the television series Unsolved Mysteries.
The ghost that walks here is said to be John W. Hardin, who was shot to death in the back yard in 1975 sometime during or after his truck caught on fire. The mystery of who killed Hardin is unsolved, but his wife, Victoria Mango Hardin, claimed to see his ghost in the house dressed in the same clothing in which he was killed: jeans and a flannel shirt. The current owners say the ghost no longer haunts the house. The story was featured on an episode of TV’s “Unsolved Mysteries.”
