THE STORY

Reported Haunting

Residents and local paranormal enthusiasts claim Harmony Mills is haunted, with much of the reported activity associated with a supposedly friendly spirit known as "Harry." Residents have described unexplained knocking at apartment doors when no one is present, strange sounds, and other unexplained occurrences throughout the massive former textile-mill complex.

Harmony Mills is a sprawling 19th-century textile mill complex in Cohoes, New York. Construction of the prominent Mill No. 3 began in 1866, and by the 1870s Harmony Mills had grown into one of the largest cotton-manufacturing operations in the world. The surviving industrial buildings have since been redeveloped as residential apartments known as The Lofts at Harmony Mills. Alongside its significant industrial history, the complex has developed a reputation for paranormal activity. Local accounts and residents have reported unexplained knocking, unusual sounds, and apparent spirit activity. One recurring figure in local paranormal stories is a spirit called "Harry," generally described as friendly rather than threatening. Paranormal investigators have also conducted investigations of the property, including attempts to capture EVP and other evidence. No reliable historical source has yet established the identity of Harry or connected the alleged spirit to a particular documented death at the mills, so the haunting should be regarded as local folklore and anecdotal resident testimony.
