The grounds of the former Greenville tuberculosis sanatorium, now Herdklotz Park, are associated with reports of phantom screams, footsteps, voices, shadowy figures and unexplained bell-like sounds.
Herdklotz Park occupies the site of Greenville's former tuberculosis sanatorium, sometimes remembered in local ghost lore as the Devil's Castle. Before the hospital buildings were removed, explorers and paranormal storytellers described phantom screams, footsteps in empty corridors, unexplained voices and other disturbances. Modern stories tied to the park grounds include strange noises, shadowy figures and phantom bell sounds. This marker represents the former hospital site and present public park, not a surviving abandoned hospital.
