THE STORY
Reported Haunting
The eighteenth-century General Edward Hand Mansion at Historic Rock Ford has accumulated more than two centuries of ghost stories. Longtime staff and volunteers have reported personal paranormal experiences while alone in the mansion and while supervising investigations inside the historic house.
Historic Rock Ford preserves the circa-1794 mansion of Revolutionary War General Edward Hand on the outskirts of Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The property itself acknowledges what it describes as more than two centuries of haunted history surrounding the Hand Mansion. Longtime employees and volunteers have reported unexplained experiences while working alone inside the house as well as while supervising paranormal investigation teams after hours. The stories have become established enough that Historic Rock Ford offers special Haunted Encounters and after-dark tours during which staff members recount their own experiences and longstanding legends associated with the mansion. The organization carefully presents these accounts as personal experiences and historical ghost lore rather than proven supernatural events, but the persistence of the reports has made Rock Ford one of Lancaster County's better-known haunted historic homes.
