THE STORY
Reported Haunting
On stormy nights along Highway 365 near Woodson, drivers are said to encounter a distressed young woman or girl walking beside the road. According to the legend, she accepts a ride and gives the driver an address, only to vanish from the vehicle before reaching the destination, sometimes leaving a wet spot on the seat. When drivers later inquire at the address, they are supposedly told that the young woman died in a car accident years earlier. Although no specific victim has been historically identified, versions of the vanishing hitchhiker story have circulated around Woodson and Highway 365 for decades.
