THE STORY

Reported Haunting

The spirit of murdered gangster Hymie Weiss is said to haunt the street outside Holy Name Cathedral, while shadow figures, unexplained voices, cold spots, and an ominous presence have reportedly been experienced around the historic church.

Holy Name Cathedral has connections to Chicago's violent Prohibition-era history. Gangster Hymie Weiss was shot and killed outside the cathedral on October 11, 1926, and bullet damage from the attack remains visible in the stonework. Visitors and paranormal investigators have reported shadowy figures near the cathedral, unexplained lights in photographs, disembodied voices, extinguished candles, sudden cold drafts, and the sensation of being touched by an unseen presence.
