THE STORY
Reported Haunting
The Hutchinson County Museum has developed a reputation for unexplained paranormal activity connected to Borger's early history. Employees have reported shadow figures, phantom footsteps, mysterious voices, and objects moving without explanation after hours. Visitors have also described an unsettling presence inside the museum.
The 1927 museum building houses a collection with a particular emphasis on the oil fields and the concept of a ‘boomtown’. It might be haunted as well, according to visitors and employees. Disembodied footsteps, the sound of someone clearing their throat and an invisible man whistling an old time tune have all been reported here, along with a radio which turns on of its own accord. Perhaps the most strange occurrence was the painting which appeared on the basement wall overnight, mystifying staff members who claimed to have never seen it before.
