THE STORY
Reported Haunting
The enormous former tuberculosis sanatorium has become one of Indiana's better-known paranormal investigation sites. Reports from its abandoned hospital buildings and tunnels include shadow figures, apparitions, disembodied voices, footsteps, phantom coughing and apparent poltergeist activity.
The Indiana State Sanatorium is a sprawling former medical complex outside Rockville. Opened in the early twentieth century for the treatment of tuberculosis, the campus later served as the Lee Alan Bryant Health Care Center before eventually closing. The property contains former hospital wards, administrative buildings, residential structures, utility buildings and an extensive network of underground steam tunnels. Since reopening for historic tours and paranormal investigations, visitors and investigators have reported shadow figures, apparitions, disembodied voices, unexplained coughing, footsteps and apparent poltergeist activity throughout the complex.
