THE STORY
Reported Haunting
The historic Inn of Cape May is associated with a female apparition often called the "Lady in Blue." Local ghost lore links her to a tragic drowning, while guests have also reported unexplained footsteps, strange sounds and the sense of an unseen presence.
Established in 1894 as the Colonial boarding house, the Inn of Cape May is one of the city's historic Victorian-era seaside properties. Modern ghost stories describe a mysterious female apparition known as the Lady in Blue, traditionally connected in local lore to a drowning. Guests and visitors have also reported footsteps, unexplained sounds and an unseen presence in parts of the hotel. The drowning story and identity of the apparition are folklore and should not be treated as established historical fact.
