THE STORY
Reported Haunting
Issaqueena Falls is tied to the legend of a Native American woman who hid near the cascade to escape pursuit, while modern ghost lore adds reports of distant screams and sudden unexplained chills near the falls.
Issaqueena Falls is a roughly 100-foot waterfall inside Stumphouse Park near Walhalla. Local folklore tells of Issaqueena, a Native American woman who warned settlers of an impending attack and later fled pursuers toward the falls. Traditional versions generally say she survived by hiding on a ledge beneath or behind the cascade rather than dying in the fall. Despite that detail, modern paranormal retellings have attached a haunting to the site, with visitors reportedly hearing distant screams over the water and experiencing sudden cold chills. The falls are publicly accessible through Stumphouse Park, although the rough trail toward the base is steep and potentially dangerous and visitors should remain on recommended routes.
