Reported Haunting
Visitors and staff have reported unexplained footsteps, mysterious voices, and occasional apparitions believed to be connected to President James A. Garfield and his family.
James A. Garfield National Historical Site, former residence of president James A. Garfield, is believed to be haunted by Garfield’s wife Lucretia. Security personnel have heard Lucretia walking upstairs at night and she has been known to turn lights on after the guards turn them off. She also is said to have tidied up each night when renovation work left the place a shambles.
