THE STORY

Reported Haunting

The Johnston-Felton-Hay House is considered one of Macon's most haunted historic mansions. Guests and staff have reported apparitions, unexplained footsteps, mysterious voices, and shadow figures throughout the beautifully preserved home. Several spirits are believed to remain connected to the mansion's long history.

Built in 1859, the house was converted into a museum in 1962 and donated to the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation in 1977. The museum is said to be haunted; the apparition of an elderly woman in a mid-1800s dress has been seen in the hallways. Witnesses also describe cold spots, footsteps, and doors that slam on their own. Some have reported the feeling of someone breathing over their shoulder, or heard the sound of moans from the master bedroom.
