The bridge is associated with reports of a female apparition and ghost stories linked to the large number of civilians who died around the crossing during the 1945 Tokyo air raids.
Kototoi Bridge crosses the Sumida River between Taito and Sumida. During the catastrophic March 1945 firebombing of Tokyo, large crowds fleeing the fires converged around the bridge and many people died in the surrounding area. Later paranormal folklore includes sightings of a female apparition and an unsettling atmosphere around the crossing.
