THE STORY
Reported Haunting
St. George Street is associated with the legend of a ghostly woman dressed in colonial-era clothing who is said to appear at night carrying or tending laundry. Known locally as the Laundry Lady, her apparition has reportedly been seen walking through the historic district before mysteriously disappearing.
The Laundry Lady, a ghost in colonial garb, is said to appear in this area at night. She never looks up from her work, but simply starts hanging wet laundry on the branches of a tree. If a living person attempts to greet and speak with her, she disappears, leaving only soap bubbles behind.
