Tate Dorm is one of Lees-McRae College's best-known haunted buildings. Students have reported ghostly figures, unexplained footsteps, and strange nighttime activity.
Lees-McRae College, specifically Tate Dorm, has a ghost called Emily. According to reports, 12-year-old Emily Draughn died of tuberculosis in the 1930s inside Tate Dorm, which was then Grace Memorial Hospital. Witnesses say Emily plays pranks like turning electrical things on and off or causing phones to ring. She has moved furniture, scribbled on dorm walls, created electrical power surges and operated the elevator. All accounts say Emily is a friendly ghost.
