Live Oak Park is associated with local legends of ghostly apparitions and unexplained encounters after dark. Visitors have reported shadow figures, mysterious lights, strange sounds, and an overwhelming feeling of being watched while walking through the park. The wooded setting has contributed to its haunted reputation.
According to locals, there are some large boulders in Live Oak Park that Native Americans in used long ago to grind acorns to make bread. The indentations worn into the rocks by the process can still be seen. Reports say that the local police department has received dozens of calls from witnesses who saw the ghost of a young Native American girl grinding acorns at these rocks.
