THE STORY

Reported Haunting

USF's Lone Mountain campus is associated with the legend of Sister Agnes, a ghost said to roam the historic building, courtyard, bell tower and Del Santo Reading Room.

Before becoming part of the University of San Francisco, Lone Mountain and its surrounding neighborhood were closely associated with several of San Francisco's major cemeteries. The university itself acknowledges a longstanding campus ghost legend concerning Sister Agnes. According to the story, Agnes died after jumping from the Lone Mountain bell tower and her spirit subsequently began appearing around the building. The Del Santo Reading Room, courtyard and bell tower are particularly associated with the legend. USF notes that confirmation of the story remains elusive, and the supernatural account should be treated as campus folklore rather than established history.
