THE STORY

Reported Haunting

The beautifully preserved Mabel Tainter Center is believed by many to be haunted by the spirit of its namesake or former occupants. Staff and visitors have reported phantom footsteps, strange sounds, and ghostly figures inside the historic theater.

The center is believed to be haunted by the ghost who may be Mabel herself. She was the daughter of Captain Andrew and Bertha Tainter, who built the nonprofit theater for the community after their beloved daughter died at age 19. Other ghosts have been reported here as well, including apparitions who watch performances and entities who tinker with sound boards or show up as a light puttering around in the storage area.
