THE STORY

Reported Haunting

Manchester Town Hall is associated with the apparition of a Victorian-era policeman, along with reports of a disembodied male voice, phantom whistling and unexplained disturbances.

Manchester Town Hall's best-known ghost story concerns a Victorian policeman said to patrol the Gothic building long after his death. Staff and visitors have reported seeing an old-fashioned police officer who disappears or seems to pass through solid structures. Other accounts include an unexplained male voice, phantom whistling and doors or lights behaving strangely. The paranormal stories remain local tradition. The historic Town Hall is currently undergoing a major restoration and is not normally accessible to the public during the works.
