THE STORY
Reported Haunting
The former Manrow House was reputedly plagued by paranormal activity from the time J.P. Manrow and his family moved into the mansion in the 1850s. Accounts describe violent disturbances, mysterious noises, and objects moving without explanation, giving the long-gone house a reputation as one of San Francisco's most intensely haunted residences.
J.P. Manrow built his dream house where these apartments now stand; his dream soon became a nightmare when he realized his house was haunted. Manrow, his family, and servants were all assaulted by an invisible known for having a very violent temper and throwing chairs at guests and residents. People were pinched and pushed, and then doors would slam shut to prevent people from escaping. The activity is believed to have been demonic and is unknown if it still exists.
