THE STORY

Reported Haunting

The historic site of the Mayberry Springs Inn near Crystal Springs, Arkansas (which stood for over 150 years before burning down in 2009), is heavily shrouded in supernatural lore and spooky occurrences. Visitors and locals frequently claim to capture photo evidence of phantom glowing "orbs" looming around the property, which is further fueled by a dark, fictional local legend claiming an early owner named David Mayberry murdered his wife and burned her body in the inn's fireplace. The property's eerie atmosphere has also been linked to sightings of a tall, dark shadow entity known as "The Hat Man" pacing near the surviving stone ruins and wellheads.

This hotel is now abandoned and near total ruin. The ghost of 1800s owner David Mayberry is said to haunt the site. Seeing that he built the hotel for the area’s prospectors and miners, gunfights broke out often here, leading to many deaths. David Mayberry himself was shot but not killed, and his shooting led to schizophrenia. In his unstable mental state, he stabbed his wife to death and burned her body in the fireplace, then drowned their son. Legend has it that you can hear the wife crying at night and hear screaming coming from the bathtub in the basement.
