THE STORY

Reported Haunting

McGlohon Theater occupies the former sanctuary of Charlotte's First Baptist Church, built in 1909 and later transformed into a performance venue. Blumenthal Arts employees have described unexplained gusts of wind inside the building, objects or sounds moving through otherwise empty areas and stories of mysterious figures and floating orbs. One frequently repeated account describes a man dressed in a top hat and long-tailed coat appearing near the theater's sound booth.

The historic McGlohon Theater at Spirit Square began as the sanctuary of First Baptist Church in 1909 before being restored as a performance venue. Staff members have reported unexplained wind, sounds resembling objects moving through empty areas, anomalous lights or orbs and apparitions. Additional Charlotte ghost lore describes singing or hymn-like sounds and unexplained cold areas when the building is otherwise quiet.
