THE STORY
Reported Haunting
The historic Milton School House is associated with disembodied voices, shadow figures, unexplained noises and objects apparently moving or falling without an obvious cause.
The former Milton School in Alton has become one of the city's better-known paranormal investigation sites. Visitors and investigators have reported disembodied voices, shadow figures, unexplained footsteps and objects moving or falling without an apparent cause. Several dramatic stories about deaths supposedly occurring inside the school have circulated over the years, but local historical sources have challenged some of those claims. This entry therefore focuses on the reported phenomena rather than presenting the more sensational legends as established history.
