Mission San Buenaventura is associated with reports of ghostly monks and unexplained paranormal activity dating back to California's mission era. Visitors have described apparitions, phantom footsteps, mysterious voices, and sudden cold spots inside the historic mission. The site remains one of Ventura's best-known haunted landmarks.
At Mission Santa Buena Ventura, folks say you can feel a presence nearing you from the side as you leave the sanctuary through a side door to the garden. The presence seems to embrace you lightly and leave you feeling comforted. Also, some witnesses have heard the sounds of ghostly chanting, cries and children’s voices.
