THE STORY

Reported Haunting

Mount Olive Cemetery is associated with the legend of Mary Jane, a woman variously described as a healer or accused witch. Visitors have reported disembodied screams, objects thrown from the woods, and unexplained activity near a tree once said to mark her grave.

Mount Olive Cemetery, or Lucas Cemetery, has a ghost named Mary Jane. One legend has it that she was burned at the stake in the 1800s after being accused of witchcraft. Another says she was a Native-American medicine woman, and some folks thought her profession was a mite too close to witchcraft, and so she was harassed. Mary Jane is said to have put a curse on the land. Reports say No Trespassing is allowed here as it is private property.
