Mount Pisgah Cemetery in Itawamba County, Mississippi, is primarily famous for the frequent sightings of mysterious, unexplained floating lights weaving through the tombstones at night. Local folklore also links the surrounding hills to the legend of an 19th-century woman accused of witchcraft who was buried apart from the other graves with an axe head embedded into the ground to trap her spirit. Visitors frequently report an oppressive, heavy atmosphere and the distinct feeling of being watched while exploring the historic, secluded churchyard.
