THE STORY
Reported Haunting
Nelsen's Hall Bitters Pub is said to be haunted by founder Tom Nelsen, who died in an upstairs room in 1960. Patrons and employees have reported phantom footsteps, doors closing by unseen force, radios changing stations, and cold breath felt near the bar. His apparition is also said to appear occasionally inside the building.
Nelsen’s Hall Bitters Pub & Restaurant is housed in a historic building and sells the drink used as a “tonic” (wink) during the Prohibition era. It is said to be haunted by the spirit of namesake Tom Nelsen, the Danish man who got a pharmaceutical license to serve his tonic at the establishment. Staff says they have heard footsteps on the stairs and seen unexplained things, like doors closing by themselves.
