Visitors report strange noises, unusual lights and the restless spirit of priest Jacob Christian Finckenhagen wandering the ruins at night.
The ruins of Nes Church near Vormsund are associated with numerous reports of strange noises and unusual illuminations. According to The Hidden North, many stories center on Jacob Christian Finckenhagen, who served as priest there from 1800 until 1837. Conflicting legends claim his children were buried within the walls, that he died by hanging from the rafters, or simply died of old age. His restless spirit is nevertheless said to wander the ruins at night. Some visitors also report feeling as though their movements become slow and difficult, like moving underwater.
