THE STORY
Reported Haunting
Northern State University in Aberdeen, South Dakota, is localized in regional folklore for spooky student and faculty encounters occurring across its century-old campus. Witnesses frequently document experiencing phantom footsteps, unexplainable disembodied noises, and objects mysteriously moving on their own inside the historic buildings. A prominent focus of these legends centers on the Beulah Williams Library, where the ghost of a past librarian is rumored to watch over the collections.
Two buildings at the university are rumored to be haunted. The Jerde Hall dormitory is home to a ghostly little girl who has been seen and heard in rooms and hallways. The Johnson Fine Arts Center has a ghost who whistles a tune from the empty men’s restroom and occasionally jingles keys or tinkers with the lights. This ghost has been known to play pranks by moving, throwing, or dropping objects as well.
