The abandoned circular schoolhouse is associated with stories of voices, footsteps, screams from the surrounding woods, shadowy figures and the sensation of being watched.
The former Shoto Elementary School served the coal-mining community around Bibai and closed in 1974. Its distinctive circular school building remains in the forest. Over the years the ruins developed a strong paranormal reputation, with visitors reporting voices, footsteps, screams and shadowy figures. The deteriorating building and surrounding wilderness also pose real physical hazards.
