THE STORY
Reported Haunting
Old Brook Farm is associated with reports of paranormal activity centered on the Perron family, whose experiences inspired later books and films. Witnesses have described apparitions, shadow figures, mysterious voices, and objects moving without explanation throughout the farmhouse. The property remains one of Rhode Island's most famous haunted locations.
It’s the house featured in the 2013 horror film “The Conjuring,” and it is also private property, so no trespassing is allowed here. Please view the house only from the road. The story is of Roger and Carolyn Perron, purchased their dream home, which previously had belonged to 8 generations of the Arnold family. The hauntings are believed to have stemmed from the house’s troubled past: John Arnold’s wife, at age 93, allegedly hanged herself in the barn, two people drowned in a nearby creek, and there were poisonings, hanging executions, men who froze to death under strange circumstances, an unsolved rape and murder of a girl–and then there was Bathsheba Sherman. Rumors were rampant that she was a witch, as her children and children she was caring for all died young. It was told that she sacrificed a child to the devil in exchange for eternal beauty. When the Perrons bought the house much later, the strange apparitions and voices were noticed immediately. “The Conjuring” tells their story.
