THE STORY
Reported Haunting
Alabama's abandoned former capital preserves generations of ghost stories, reported sightings and unexplained encounters among the ruins of Old Cahawba.
Old Cahawba Archaeological Park preserves the site of Alabama's first permanent state capital and the remains of the later abandoned community. The Alabama Historical Commission has presented official Ghost Stories of Old Cahawba tours that take visitors to locations described as the park's most haunted sites. Park staff share historical ghost sightings, longstanding folklore and their own reported encounters with unexplained phenomena. The stories are treated as part of Cahawba's historical folklore.
