THE STORY
Reported Haunting
Mississippi's Old Capitol has accumulated numerous ghost legends since opening in 1839. Visitors have reported hearing footsteps, seeing apparitions, and encountering the spirit of a former official said to remain in the historic building.
Legend claims that the office of a man who reportedly died at his desk is haunted by his ghost. People claim to hear strange noises and the sounds of doors opening and closing coming from the office when there is no one in there.
