THE STORY

Reported Haunting

The historic red floodgate on the Arakawa is associated with stories of a female apparition and ghostly figures near the water.

Completed in 1924 as part of Tokyo's flood-control system, the Old Iwabuchi Floodgate is now a well-known historic landmark. Japanese paranormal folklore describes a woman appearing around the floodgate and figures seen near the river. The area's long association with drownings and recovered bodies has contributed to its supernatural reputation.
