THE STORY
Reported Haunting
Old Stagecoach Road outside Marshall follows part of a historic route once used by travelers and stagecoaches between Marshall and Shreveport. The isolated road has developed a long-standing reputation for paranormal activity. One of its best-known legends describes a spectral woman who appears on foggy nights and attempts to beckon motorists toward the surrounding woods. Travelers have also reported phantom stagecoaches or wagons, unexplained lights, strange sounds, and other apparitions. Another legend tells of a Voodoo practitioner who supposedly fled New Orleans and settled near the road before being killed, with her spirit said to wander the area during the full moon. Additional local stories describe a heavy thump striking the roofs of passing vehicles, attributed in folklore to a man supposedly hanged from an overhanging tree, and unexplained handprints appearing on vehicles after nighttime drives. The historical details behind many of these stories remain unverified, but the road has become one of East Texas' better-known haunted-road legends. (Submission by Jeremy Cawthon)
