THE STORY
Reported Haunting
Old Stone Fort is associated with ghost stories tied to its role during the French and Indian War and the American Revolution. Visitors have reported apparitions in colonial clothing, phantom footsteps, mysterious voices, and unexplained lights around the historic fortifications. The site is considered one of New York's notable haunted historic landmarks.
Old Stone Fort is a 1772 church that was used as a fort during the Revolutionary War and an armory during the Civil War. Reports say there is still a cannonball hall embedded in its wall, but that isn’t the only thing that remains here from its past. Witnesses say they’ve seen an apparition, and heard a woman scream in the tower and an organ play itself. The site has been featured on an episode of TV’s Ghost Hunters.
