THE STORY

Reported Haunting

The Grove Park Inn's best-known ghost story centers on the mysterious Pink Lady. According to the long-running legend, a young woman died in 1920 after falling from a fifth-floor interior balcony into the Palm Court atrium below. Whether her death was an accident, suicide, or the result of foul play has never been established, and her identity remains unknown. Guests and employees have since reported sightings of a woman in pink, unexplained pink mist, televisions turning themselves on and off, and faucets activating without explanation. Room 545 and the historic Main Inn are particularly associated with stories of the Pink Lady.

A historic resort hotel opened in 1913 on Sunset Mountain overlooking Asheville. Its most famous paranormal legend is the Pink Lady, the unidentified spirit of a young woman believed to have died after falling into the Palm Court atrium around 1920.
