THE STORY

Reported Haunting

The Oxford Hotel is associated with several ghost stories, most famously that of a woman named Florence Montague, who according to legend killed her lover and then herself in Room 320. Guests and staff have reported apparitions, unexplained footsteps, and other disturbances, particularly around the room linked to the tragedy.

The 1891 Oxford Hotel is now Art Deco style, thanks to a 1930s remodel. The old hotel has a few ghosts, according to reports. One apparition of a man in a postal worker uniform from many years ago sat down at the bar and ordered a beer. He was seen drinking it, but when he left, the bartender found it still full. He is thought to be the spirit of a postal worker who disappeared and was found dead with all his packages in the spring. Another ghost appears in Room 320, a young woman was killed by her husband when he caught her in the room with another man.
