Reported Haunting
St Nicholas Church is associated with two of Pluckley's best-known spirits, the Red Lady and the White Lady. The Red Lady is said to search the churchyard for her stillborn child, while the White Lady has reportedly appeared near the church and the former Dering estate.
One of the members of the Dering Family gave birth to a stillborn child placed in an unmarked grave. Now, there are reports that she can be seen wandering the graveyard, often referred to as the Red Lady. Another spirit, known simply as The White Lady is also seen around the church. She is thought to be related to The Red Lady and also reported to be at the Dering House’s library.
